Imuko

The titular protagonist of the manga.

Imuko is a strange, mysterious girl of supernatural origins. For ages, she inhabited the "boundary lines"— liminal spaces between existence and non-existence that humans are warned to never cross (usually a rope strung between trees). She was inadvertently freed and swapped places with Amano, a young man who accidentally took her place within the "boundary".

She sports a bobbed haircut and typically goes on barefoot. Her clothing consists of a white side-tying top paired brown overalls. Her design is heavily influenced by Shinto ritualism: she wears accessories based on shimenawa (Japanese sacred ritual ropes) at the sides of her hair, as well as shide (紙垂, 四手) paper streamers attached directly under her eyes.

The true source of her abilities or about herself still remains a mystery. Despite her unassuming appearance, it is said that anyone who encounters her is destined to meet a dreadful fate.
