Though he was no more than a penniless gambling addict, after being approached by Ginji Hirai at the horse racetrack, he decides to live in the underworld where the wicked hold on to the money.

On one hand, he has the sharpness and genius to see through his opponents' lies and win, but he also possesses monstrous luck, sometimes acting beyond the principle of profit or loss, which Ginji and the others cannot do. He admires Ginji's villainous nature and his genius for acquiring money, and aspires to surpass him by becoming the "gold" (kin) to his "silver" (gin).

He wears his long black hair, which reaches his back when untied, tied back in a ponytail. He is most often seen wearing a green striped suit paired with either a red or black shirt. As a side note, when he lets his hair down, his appearance bears a striking resemblance to Kaiji Itou.
