When she was in grade school, Hikaru appeared in a widely seen TV commercial. Ever since then, she’s been harassed by jealous classmates. As a result, Hikaru grew up without any friends (except for her faithful pug Sumikko). She’s something of a tomboy, but her beauty still comes through. She’s not so much an ugly duckling as an ostrich who just needs to get her head out of the sand!

When her parents move to France, Hikaru transfers to the prestigious Seika Academy, an all-girls school renowned for grooming girls into “Yamato Nadeshiko,” perfect Japanese women. That’s all well and good—all Hikaru wants is a chance to be anonymous. Luck’s not on her side, however. Her new roommate turns out to be the most famous student in the school, pop idol Izumi Kido. Things get even worse for Hikaru when she discovers Izumi’s biggest secret. Now, wherever Izumi goes, Hikaru is forced to follow. Will life in the spotlight push the neurotic Hikaru over the edge, or will Izumi’s anything-but-predictable ways help the shy girl to blossom?
