Background

The title "Obatalian" is a combination of the Japanese word おば (oba, meaning middle-aged woman) and the Japanese title (Battalion/バタリアン) of the 1985 zombie comedy movie The Return of the Living Dead. Obatalian was partially published in English as Obatarian in the educational publication Mangajin, where it was included occasionally from October 1990 (issue #4) to September 1996 (issue #59), for a total of 22 issues.
