After studying Japanese art at Aichi Art College, he started his career as a professional comic writer/artist when "Steel Queen" was published in Weekly Shonen Jump Extra in 1975. In the same year, he received the Tezuka Award as the best young comic creator for his "Morning Faraway" and quickly established himself as the most promising writer/artist in "hard" science-fiction comics.
